Microsoft know what they are doing. So, they made a few mistakes in a IE6 you say? Keep in mind the technology we use today was the equivalent to HTML5 back then. It’s obviously not going to be a perfect implementation. CSS-based layouts were used about as much as .

Also name one browser that can scroll anywhere near as smoothly as IE (especially IE6 – it’s not as good in 7/8). Webkit can’t even scroll smoothly at all, Firefox has that long running bug with anything fixed to the viewport, and Opera just doesn’t feel right.

Wrong! Thank the web developers who have painstakingly taken every single step so that their sites STILL show up correctly in that non-standard browser.

The reason websites still show up properly in IE 6 is ONLY because web developers have painstakingly taken every single step so that their sites show up correctly in that browser. Why? Because, unfortunately, in most market segments a significant audience is still locked in to IE 6.

See? It has NOTHING to do with IE 6 being a “good browser”…

- IE 6 is a terrible browser. It does NOT follow not even 50% of Open Web standards.

- IE 6 is FULL of bugs. And IE 6 has several security holes.

Get your facts straight, man.

Dude, I am not using IE at all
I use Chrome for personal purpose, FF for development. My PC got IE6 as I am now using XP.

I said IE6 is good browser because, it still shows your website almost properly compared it’s competitors. yes, 8 years is a long age for a browser. So I respect IE6

Now, how you can ask MS to keep standards? It is their product. They will do what they think. Use it or trash it lol !

The popularity of IE web browser is not based on the superior quality of that browser but the unawareness of the web users. As a user it is enough to view the website contents but from a developer point of view we need more. It is not a valid excuse to use IE6 as it displayed the websites correctly before 8 years. 8 years in web is a very long period. If you haven’t updated your browser in 8 years that shows what kind of a user you are.

As a web developer if you take a survey among the developers to find out the primary browser they use for their development you can find that most of them will be using non-IE browsers for their development. Why it is so?

I still use IE for checking my sites but for personal purpose I never use it. Microsoft could’ve done a better job by following the web standards but their main focus is the market share not the quality of their browser.

I am not saying that Firefox is the best browser available. As it is very difficult to define the term “best”. I uses Firefox for the development purpose as it supports lots of add-ons, which makes the development time very less.

1st thing is, ie6 is now 8 years old. Respect her. Love her or hate her, but you can not ignore. Lot of people are using it. Remember the competitors of IE6 that time. Netscape, Opera 5!! Can you see those browsers now?. No.

And try to open your pages in those browsers. You cant see your content. IE6 is showing almost properly as you need it. Say thanks to Microsoft for making such a nice browser 8 years ago.
