For the couple of year back, it was very hard to type Malayalam on computers. For generating a single character we need to use combination of keys in some Malayalam softwares. It is very hard to remember the combination keys and it is time killing.

Earlier, Google has started Google transliteration for web interface. So it is very easy to type Malayalam in Blogger, Gmail, Knol, Orkut etc. Now Google has released a standalone software which you can download and install on your machine. So even if you don’t have internet connection you can type Malayalam.

Google Transliteration IME is an input method editor which allows users to enter text in one of the supported languages using a roman keyboard. Users can type a word the way it sounds using Latin characters and Google Transliteration IME will convert the word to its native script. Note that this is not the same as translation — it is the sound of the words that is converted from one alphabet to the other, not their meaning. Converted content will always be in Unicode.

Google Transliteration IME is currently available for 14 different languages – Arabic, Bengali, Farsi (Persian), Greek, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

Download Google Transliteration IME from Google.Installation instructions are available here

I blogged earlier about how to set up Open DNS on your Ubuntu Operating System. Yesterday I heard that Google also providing free DNS. I just tried myself and I felt that has better performance, security and correct results.

Before you configure new DNS, It is adviced that be sure to write down the current settings on a piece of paper. One thing I noticed that unlike the Open DNS it is very easy to remember.Google has given a detailed configuration settings here.

How to configure Google Public DNS on your Ubuntu?

The Google Public DNS IP addresses are as follows:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

It is very easy to configure these DNS IP addresses on your Ubuntu.

Steps
1. Right-click on ‘Network Icon’ (located at top-right panel by default) and click on ‘Edit Connections’ to open Network Connections Manager.
2. Choose the type of connection you have. For this example, I will use ‘DSL’.
3. Under ‘DSL’, highlight ‘BSNL BB’ (my broadband connection) and click on ‘Edit’.
4. Inside ‘Editing BSNL BB’ window, click on ‘IPv4 Settings’ tab.
5. Under ‘IPv4 Settings’, change the ‘Method’ to Automatic (PPPoE) addresses only.
6. Put these nameserver addresses as your ‘DNS Servers’: 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4
7. Click ‘Apply’ and reboot your machine. You are done. Now your DNS has pointing to Google Public DNS.

Google pagerank will be a craze for the SEO masters. So page rank checking is so important for them. Finding an appropriate tool is important. It should be ease the life for them.

I have been checking for such a tool which checks all the pages in my blog for rank. There is a lot of page rank checking tool. But in that, we have to manually copy paste the URLs one by one. There may be a limitation of up to 50 URLs or something. So it is time taking.

Finally I found such a ranking tool which will check all the URLs in the website. We have to pass the only URL of the site. That’s all. The software called “PaRaMeter” stands for Page Ranking Meter. It is a free page rank checking and monitoring tool. We can call it as a bulk page rank checker.

The features include, you can monitor Pagerank in different Google datacenters. This software is available from http://www.cleverstat.com/en/page-rank-software.htm. There is a bundle of useful software available from that site. But I haven’t tried that yet.

Page Ranking Meter

For checking multiple pages from an URL we need to provide the exact URL first. That we do it from “Extract Urls” from tools menu. Screenshot attached. Then provide the starting url and click the start button. And we have to provide the depth. I put it as 3. So it will check http://www.yoursite.com/directory/diretory-or-file.

Once it is finished we can click on the save found urls and close button. So it will add to the parent window. Then we can start checking of Page rank by clicking on play button or Update PR from the project menu. Now it will show your page ranks in that window.

Page rank of my site

The only disadvantage I found is that, we have to download the exe file and install in your machine and available for windows only.

I started this blog 3 months back. I had been really happy because of the Google’s indexing. But things are changed now. I am feeling something wrong. I had been in 2nd position for the keyword ‘Sunil blog’. Last Thursday onwards this keyword showing in the 2nd page for the blog myhtmlworld.com.

I had no clue about this. I checked with my colleagues and my colleague Sadiq found one interesting article. I think ‘Google Dance’ may be the reason for pulling off the keyword ‘Sunil blog’? Huh! I couldn’t found any other reason.

What is ‘Google Dance’?

The term ‘Google Dance’ means the period when Google is rebuilding its rankings. This time results may be widely fluctuate for a 3 to 5 day period.

I am not that much techie to explain this term

Please visit this article to get more about Google Dance

http://www.metamend.com/google-dance.html

http://dance.efactory.de/

This may be the reason to pulling off my website for 2nd page for that keyword? What do you think? Let’s see.

I am writing this post only to introduce ‘Google Dance’; I wont care even if Google throw me out from the Google search results

There was a recent page rank update from Google on this December. Many of the SEO people may notice that. Some websites got a better page rank and some websites lost their existing page rank.

What are real factors that affect the page ranking? (Really I don’t know!)

According to the words of Google, “PageRank reflects our view of the importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results.”

And Google is saying that it depends on the links of the page and other links which are coming to the website. (Incoming links).

But the last update from Google was not on this policy? I hosted this blog around 1 and half months back only (28th of November). I don’t have much incoming links. But I got page rank 3. But some good sites which have a lot of incoming links lost their page rank. Any of them could find any reason for this? What do you think?

Now I am feeling like that Google page rank is not a big thing…You may miss the page rank at any time? Build your web page for your visitors not just for search engines!

Today I have seen Google’s new service called Google SMS. You can now search anything from your mobile phone through SMS (Short Message Service) with free of cost. (You have to pay to your service provider for sending SMS – don’t forget that).

You can get the ticket status of train, schedules of train, restaurant information and more… Just try it out. All you need is send an sms to 9-77-33-00000 (without “-“). Eg: Get the PNR status of Indian Railway. Then send sms to PNR <number> to 9773300000.

I think it is country depended. So you have to check the customized (country wise) domain name of Google. Eg: For India,http://labs.google.co.in/smschannels

Google SMS Channels

By using SMS channel you will get automatic updates to your mobile which you have subscribed through Google SMS Channels. You can create your own channels also. Eg: I have created my-html-world. You can just search for it and subscribe the SMS Channel through this URL http://labs.google.co.in/smschannels/browse
